I have taken liberty with the parameters of Promised Land in this series. “Promised Land” and “Land Of Promise”
are interchangeable in this context. The underlying assumption of a promised land with divine origins (God promised Abraham)
has been expanded to include those made by mortals – religious and secular: politicians, evangelists, demagogues/ideologues or
oddballs with a following to pursue a common goal.
History has shown that in many instances the pursuits of Promised Land become tragic stories, usually involving mass deaths
and displacement, totalitarian control, oppression and the sanctification of violence.
